The Safety Manager's primary purpose is to ensure all operational safety risks are identified, addressed, and satisfactorily mitigated; and to provide a safe and efficient work atmosphere for all employees through safety education, awareness, accountability, and continuous company development. This includes leading and directing department teams to successfully execute safety initiatives; and leading company efforts to keep our Experience Modification Rating (EMR) under 1.0.

Essential Duties: 

  • Manage day to day performance of the safety functional area and ensure goals are met and
  • Adhere to approved budgets
  • Complete jobsite inspections, including follow up and verification of implemented corrections
  • Lead and coordinate weekly safety meetings and daily tailgates as required
  • Hazardous materials job file audit and develop awareness
  • Partner with our Third-Party Environmental Health and Safety consultant to ensure proper asbestos and lead operating procedures and training
  • Manage sub-contractor relationships, including, but not limited to, issuing agreements and managing insurance programs and safety compliance
  • Implement "best practices" which will work toward risk reduction for Woodard, our clients and employees
  • Eliminate and/or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error and equipment and machine operations that may lead to human injury and/or property damage
  • Monitor accident/injury response, investigation, and management
  • Oversee claim management efforts (workers comp; automobile liability) to include cooperation of third-party administrators
  • Maintain OSHA Logs and incident records
  • Manage work care injury program including follow up with employee, supervisor, and third-party administrators
  • Research and report the most cost-effective plans to minimize/reduce costs and losses relative to vehicle incident and injury expenses
  • Prepare and manage response to OSHA complaints/citations
  • Participate in monthly leadership meeting updating leaders of department stats, current business and future areas of focus
  • Ensure DOT compliance measures are maintained, including, but not limited to, drug and alcohol testing, timely renewal of driver qualifications, implementation of necessary changes of laws and regulations, and counseling and disciplining of any drivers that violate regulations
  • Establish and maintain timely external registrations/licenses and hazardous material handling on construction and other jobsites including:
    • Federal and Multi-state: EPA, DOT, DTSC, DMV, etc.
    • Multi-state contract licenses, OSHA, DOSH, RRP


Prior Work Experience:

  • Three to five years' experience in a safety coordination, management role with a minimum of three of those years in a construction related industry
  • Experience reviewing, researching and interpreting various statistics and technical data
  • Strong experience building relationships with team members at all levels of the organization


Prior Education

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, safety, environmental safety, engineering or similar
